The long-awaited National Badminton Championship was successfully held from October 4th to 6th, 2024, at Bebena, Thimphu, after a five-year break. The prestigious event saw a total of 45 participants compete across multiple categories, showcasing the nation’s badminton talent.
Results as follow:
• Men’s Singles:
11 players competed for the top spot, with Anish Gurung emerging as the champion and Avik Balampaki securing the runner-up position.
• Mixed Doubles:
In a competitive field of 6 teams, Jimba Sangay Lhendup and Phuntsho Dema clinched the title, while Suverson Lama and Singye Wangmo finished as runners-up.
• Veteran’s Singles:
14 veterans competed, with Kapil Chettri taking the championship title, and Tashi T Dorji taking second place.
• Veteran’s Doubles:
The category saw 10 teams, with Nidup Dorji and Kapil Chettri triumphing as champions, while Nobin Gurung and Tshultrim Tharchen were the runners-up.
The tournament provided a platform for players to showcase their skills after a long break in National-level competition.
