Bhutan Badminton Federation (BBF) has formed a badminton club in collaboration with the Peljorling Higher Secondary School (HSS), becoming the second school in the country to do so.
The inauguration of the club was held on Friday, March 31, 2023, at the school’s indoor hall with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the federation and the school. The event was attended by the officials from the BBF and the teachers from Peljorling HSS.
Development Manager of Bhutan Badminton Federation, Mr. Bikash Gurung, expressed his appreciation towards Peljorling HSS for taking the initiative to form the club. He mentioned that the formation of the club would not only provide a platform for students to play badminton but also help in identifying talented players who can represent Bhutan in national and international competitions.
Likewise, the Principal of Peljorling HSS, Mr. Cheku Dorji, highlighted the importance of sports in the overall development of students. He stated that the formation of the club will encourage students to take up badminton and help them stay physically fit and mentally healthy.
During the signing of the MoU, the federation presented the 15 rackets, 10 barrels of shuttlecock and one net.
The formation of the club is expected to boost the popularity of badminton in Peljorling HSS and encourage more students to take up the sport. It is also expected to help in identifying and nurturing talented players who can represent Bhutan in national and international competitions.
Overall, the formation of the club is a positive step towards promoting badminton and nurturing talented players in the nation. It is hoped that more schools will follow in the footsteps of Peljorling HSS and form clubs to promote badminton and groom talented players in the future.
