On the 25th of May, the Bhutan Paralympic Committee (BPC) in collaboration with Bhutan Badminton Federation (BBF) celebrates the 5th Paralympic Festival at Changangkha Middle Secondary School (CMSS). The event was a resounding success, filled with memorable moments and a spirit of inclusivity and joy.
The festival brought together 143 Special Education Needs (SEN) students from CgMSS, who were accompanied by their friends, parents, and teachers. Additionally, around 60 participants from seven other SEN schools in Thimphu joined the celebrations. These schools included:
- Yangchen Gatshel Higher Secondary School
- Sherab Gatshel Primary School
- Dechechholing Higher Secondary School
- Loselling Middle Secondary School
- Changzamtog Middle Secondary School
- Taba Lower Secondary School
- Draktsho Vocational Training Institute
The event was officially graced by the Chief Guest, Dasho Dechen Wangmo, Head of the Pema Secretariat.
The festival was further enriched by the attendance of representatives from the Disabled Pe ople’s Organisation of Bhutan (DPO), Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Special Olympics Asia Pacific, and Ability Bhutan Society (ABS).
As the 5th Paralympic Festival concludes, the BBF looks forward to future events that continue to foster an inclusive and supportive environment for all individuals with disabilities in Bhutan.
Among the ten Para sport promoted during the festival, BBF is deeply grateful for the opportunity to advocate Para – Badminton and hopes this will lead to further collaboration for the empowerment of People with Disabilities in Bhutan.
